Why a Walk?
The Walk 4 Hope began in 2014 at Parramatta and Newcastle (Speers Point) and since then it has grown to four different locations. Unfortunately, we have not been able to meet in person and walk for the last two years due to COVID-19. We hope that 2022 is the year we bring back the walk and would love the community to get behind us.
Isolation is experienced by many people affected by Huntington’s disease (HD) and with that in mind the walk was purposely designed to be inclusive for everyone to take part in their very own Walk 4 Hope. It is an opportunity for families and friends to come together, to share their stories and to know they are not alone in their battle with HD.
Where are the Walks?
When you sign up for Walk 4 Hope, you can choose the location and date that suits you best. Walks are currently held in Canberra, Orange, Newcastle and Paramatta. You can also join the walk virtually around your own neighbourhood during September.
- Newcastle – Sunday 11th September
- Canberra – Sunday 18th September
- Orange – Sunday 25th September
- Parramatta – Sunday 25th September
Walk 4 Hope start time is 11am. Merchandise will be available for sale from 10:30am.
Why Fundraise?
With almost half of our income (excluding NDIS) coming from fundraising activities like the Walk 4 Hope, we are relying on you to register and show your support. Your donation helps us to provide much needed assistance:
- for young people at risk of inheriting Huntington’s disease who experience many difficulties on their Huntington’s journey, through our youth connection program;
- for carers and their families through the regional outreach program of support groups, awareness raising and community development;
- for people with their NDIS packages through the assistance of dedicated support workers.
Why not get your family, friends or workplace involved and make it a team event:
- Go Casual Day or Dress up Day “Be seen – wear pink & green” at work with colleagues donating to Huntington’s NSW ACT through your Walk 4 Hope challenge
- Challenge your workmates to join you on the walk
- Ask your local gym to get involved, do a spin class for HD or a rower challenge for HD
- Get some walking buddies together, set yourselves a challenge. Aim for a half hour walk each day and ask them all to sign up as a team, encourage them to obtain their own sponsors
- 10,000 steps a day in September translates to 300,000 steps! Post your challenge to your social media network such as Facebook and Instagram
- Share your photos and stories
It is only through the generosity of the fundraisers and donors that we can continue to support people impacted by Huntington’s disease. Every dollar is important to us and because of the generosity of people like you we continue to be able to support families impacted by Huntington’s disease. The Walk 4 Hope is the difference between shrinking or growing our programs.
What does my registration cover?

What do I need to bring on the day?
Walk 4 Hope start time is 11am. Merchandise will be available for sale from 10:30am.
Make sure that you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring bottles of water. You should also bring sunscreen, sunglasses, hat and appropriate outdoor weather clothing (in case of rain).
Don’t forget money for raffles or HD merchandise.
Can I volunteer?
Volunteering is a great way to help families with HD. Without the help of our wonderful volunteers, it would not be possible for us to hold community events.
We are looking for people who are 16+ years of age and don’t mind an early start! There are a variety of roles on offer to suit all fitness levels. The ideal volunteer will also be a happy and encouraging person, with the ability to work well under pressure and cope with large crowds of eager participants.
