Celebrating National Carers week

Thank you @CarersNSW

Carer opening a care hamper

Our Carer Support groups received a donation from CarersNSW to help celebrate National Carers week (Sunday 10th Oct-Sat 16th Oct).

Each region was planning to host an event for their Carer group but unfortunately COVID hijacked these plans.

Instead carers of the Port Macquarie and Wollongong Support groups received a phone call, care package or a massage voucher. Coffs Harbour were spoilt even further by Ellen at Joyland Carers Retreat who went the extra mile by acquiring additional local goodies and a personalised care delivery (COVID safe).

While Orange, Newcastle, West Ryde and Central Coast events were postponed so carer’s can celebrate together in safer times. Further detail will be communicated through these community facilitators.

If you’d like to know more about our Carer Support groups reach out to us on 9874 9777 or at [email protected]

Summer Foundation report on effective housing and support models

Published date: 19 July, 2022

People with Huntington’s disease require high levels of specialised care in order for them to manage daily living tasks. Specialised housing for people with Huntington’s disease in Australia is limited. This is in part due to a lack of funding and in part due to a lack of appropriate facilities. For many people, this means that their only option is to live in residential aged care (RAC). Living in RAC is generally not appropriate given that the environment often has a lack of age-appropriate activities, and social interaction.
